KNITWEAR: Chanel to Westwood

In Autumn 2022, ‘KNITWEAR Chanel to Westwood’ comes to Dovecot Studios, the tapestry studio and contemporary arts venue in Edinburgh. This important exhibition draws insight on how socio-political and art movements have inspired and advanced knitwear and the development of knitting technology, with a focus on the work of significant designers throughout the twentieth century. The display is a very personal choice, featuring more than 150 items from the extensive and varied collection of Mark and Cleo Butterfield of C20 Vintage Fashion. Though previously shown at the Fashion and Textile Museum, as Knitting History reported in 2014, this is the first time the exhibition has been mounted in Scotland, so as well as a wonderful opportunity for those unable to attend the London showing, this is also a chance to see the pieces in a fresh context. ‘KNITWEAR Chanel to Westwood’ will run from 15 October 2022 to 11 March 2023.
